TV to watch about pollution - and how you can make a difference
These documentaries will open your eyes to the amazing things people are doing throughout the world to combat plastic pollution, and how you too can be part of the solution to plastic pollution.
1. Drowning in Plastic
The BBC presents this brilliant documentary with wildlife Biologist Liz Bonnin, as she travels all over the world looking at waterways and oceans.
You will find out how far plastic waste can travel through waterways and the effects it has on marine animals and birds. Liz shows a few new inventions that are tackling the plastic problem, and how you can get involved.
This documentary was created in 2018 but still remains relevant; it is suitable for children, but some scenes are graphic.
2. The War on Waste
Every year the waste we generate in Australia is growing at twice the rate of our population.
Craig Reucassel takes us on a journey of impacts and solutions for waste in Australia throughout this documentary series.
The War on Waste is suitable for the kids to watch as well. You’ll learn some amazing facts about food waste, fast fashion, and those pesky coffee cups.

Possibly one of the most breathtaking documentaries ever made with Sir David Attenborough, Our Planet shows many rarely seen animals and locations, mixed with the truth about humanity’s impact on our world.

5. 2040
A personal favourite with the Unpackaged staff, 2040 is from Australian filmmaker Damon Gameau. Damon imagines what the world could be like in 20 years if we adapt to new technologies to help the planet. Perfect for watching with the kids.
