How to shop in Unpackaged

It's daunting right? Stepping into a store you aren't familiar with topped with a process you haven't used before...we get it.

Mount Gambier's bulk food store, Unpackaged, offers customers options to purchase their foods, eco wares, and toiletry and cleaning needs without the plastic packaging.

But how does it work?

The staff in our store are here to help YOU, yep YOU. Ask them as many crazy questions as you like, we guarantee we've probably heard them before. The staff will happily help you on your zero waste journey, we get the warm and fuzzies helping people start their zero waste lives; we want to be a part of it.

Steps ....

Come into the store, have a look around, suss out the products, ask the staff a question or two. We are here to help you, and in turn, help our planet. Once you've worked out what you want to purchase, you've now got 2 options:

                  1. Grab one of our paper bags, write down the product code on the bag - you'll find a code on every product. Fill your bag with as much, or as little, as you need.

                  2. Got your own containers? You little legend! Head to our tare station (or flag down a staff member), here we have the steps outlined for you as well.
First of all, you need to get your empty jar, container, cloth bag and weigh it. Write down the weight on the jar, in your phone or on a piece of paper.

Go fill up your jars with all of our amazing products. Write the product code on the jar, on a piece of paper or in your phone.

                  3. Head to our checkout, you are almost finished! Our staff will weight your products and remove the weight of your containers - to make sure you only pay for the weight of your goods.

                  4. All done - you are a zero waste superstar!

That's it, you've re-used your jars, reduced the amount of plastic you are using and you've got your groceries. WINNING.

But I’m Shopping Online

Go you good thing! You’ve found our plastic-free, zero-waste store and are ready to buy online.
Don’t stress we aren’t about to wrap it all up in plastic bags and send your order to you.

Local Courier Options

If you’re located in an area our couriers go to then you can just sit back and know that your parcel will be with you pretty darn soon.
Unless you specify, we’ll use recycled glass jars and paper bags made from recycled paper to bundle up your goodies - before putting them in a re-used cardboard box and sending them on their way.

Australia Post

For those places we just can’t get to, we use Australia Post.

Why don’t we use Sendle or some other fancy postage option? Because we are REGIONAL, meaning we don’t have all the options that other businesses in cities do. But that’s ok we make it work for you.

We bundle up your purchase in COMPOSTABLE bags. These bags can be put in your compost or green waste bin.
We’ll use recycled jars or recycled plastic food containers for liquids.
Our local customers are kind enough o give us their postage packaging and we re-use this.
We’ll put your items into a reused box, or if they re small enough we’ll pop them in a mailbag.

Fun fact. Mailbags can be recycled by REDCYCLE at your local Coles or Woolies.
